Vagabond was founded in 2017 by Valery Zelenyuk Jansen van Vuuren, emerging from a lifelong love for fashion, couture and design. The aim was to create a fashion-forward bridalwear brand that will make women feel their most beautiful. Our ethos is a contemporary take on femininity; combining a deep passion for the art of dressmaking with thoughtful design, and couture-level craftsmanship. Each piece is individually made by hand, and every last detail, from fabric to fit is underpinned by a passion for quality.

We are a boutique style manufacturing studio, offering bespoke, handmade garments, that are individually crafted with the highest skill set, care and attention to detail. Each gown has an underlying timelessness in its silhouette, structure and fabric, catering to diverse body types and a vibrant range of tastes.

We pride ourselves in our strong focus on the economic empowerment of women, alongside ethical production practices and a balanced working environment for women in today’s economic climate. We have our own full spectrum in-house team which means that we do not outsource any workmanship. Our consists of a plethora of skilled artisans who have over two centuries of experience between them. We use traditional pattern making techniques which are developed by hand and tested individually – nothing about a Vagabond gown is automated or mass produced.

Vagabond situates itself firmly within the slow fashion movement. By manufacturing each gown individually and only to order, we ensure that there is zero product waste. We practice minimal discard production methods, and do not use any animal products. Our packaging methods undergo a continuous assessment to be as environmentally friendly as the latest technology allows.
